HOLBOX ISLAND

GAY MEN ON THE GO - GAY TRAVEL - GAY DAY - GAY NIGHT

What to say about Holbox… in short, it’s heaven on earth.

We have visited many places, but Holbox remains forever in our memory and was one of the favorite places we have ever visited.

It’s an island with little tourism, if you’re looking for resorts this is not the destination. The island seems to have stopped in time, there are no cars, you only travel by bicycle or golf cart. No fancy clothes, just flip flops, shorts and t-shirts.

The island has no asphalt, it’s really foot in the sand all the time. The center is very small and relaxed, you have a few restaurants, a few bars that close early, small shops and small supermarkets. The atmosphere is so relaxed that you can go to a cafe to eat a sandwich and it doesn’t have Coca-Cola, for example, but they say you can go to the supermarket and bring it to the cafe.

As for the beach, it was the best we’ve ever seen, vast sand, super transparent water, without waves and warm sea.

You have a little bit of everything since boat trips for the laziest, flamingos, neighboring islands, whale sharks and even plankton that shines at night.

You can easily cycle around the island in one day if you want, in fact you can walk the whole island. We rent bicycles for a day and cycle the whole island, on the beach, in the water, just follow the trails. You will easily find small family businesses where you can rent bicycles or a golf car.

Holbox is located in the northern tip of Quintana Roo state and you can easily take a bus or boat from Cancun or Playa del Cármen.

We left Playa del Carmen again by bus (ADO). The trip takes about 2 hours and you have to buy the ticket to Chiquila, where you will take the ferry to Holbox.

The boat trip is fast, you have two companies that make the crossing, 9 Hermanos and Monkey Express. You choose the company that will make the trip first, the price is the same, it’s quite simple and you buy the ticket on the spot.

In all our trips we always go with the security of having a Travel Insurance.

We always take out travel insurance with IATI because it has the best conditions and prices. You'll see it's the best price! And if you use our link, you get a 5% discount.

- Really, take advantage of the discount!

In Holbox we stayed in a small Airbnb right in the center, La casa de Ñaña. It’s a simple, beautiful and comfortable accommodation. The owners have a beach club and if you arrive early you have chairs on the beach without paying anything. As we arrived late at the beach there were no chairs, but you can spread your towel wherever you want, space in paradise is not lacking.

To guide you a little, you have the center and if you go to one side you have Punta Mosquito, it’s where the beach is most beautiful and spectacular, on the other side you have Punta Cocos and Playa Tortuga, place where you’ll find flamingos, but don’t forget to respect them.

In our opinion Holbox is one of those places that you have to go at least once in your life. If you want to enjoy the Caribbean rhythm and be amazed by the beauty of a place, Holbox is the place.
